│Support the shareware concept! If you like the programs you try, REGISTER ! │
└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
dCOM is one of the most powerful DOS utilities available today. It combines
almost all of the commonly desired features relating to DOS utilities, in one
easy to use program. Some of these features are:
1. A resizable print spooler. The print spooler is supported with a hot-key
that lets you clear it and your printer's buffer at any time. The spooler
uses expanded memory if available. The spooler is extremely sophisticated
and fine-tunes itself to your printing device. It will keep up with an
insatiable laser printer just as easily as a 120 cps printer. There are
seperate spooler programs costing over $100 just because they can drive a
laser printer, dCOM does it in its sleep as an ancillary function. Rates
exceeding 5000 cps have been noted on font or graphics dumps to a laser
printer. Additionally, the print system allows total redirection of any
LPT port to any other LPT or COMM port. If the print spooler is active
and printer output is redirected to a COMM port, baud rates as high as
38400 are supported with full hardware and software flow control.
2. Programmable macro keys. With the macro keys you can build your own point-
n-shoot commands. This is handy for changing to commonly used directories,
running your favorite programs, compiling the currently selected file, an
auto menuing system for novice users, or whatever else your ingenuity can
produce...
3. Using the macro keys, a complete - sophisticated menuing system can be
built that is mouse supported and provides such features as file select
windows (also mouse supported) as a prompting mechanism before running a
program.
4. Screen Saver, configurable from 1 to 59 minutes.
5. Keyboard and Video Security. You can disable the keyboard and blank (save)
the screen no matter what you're doing, with a hot-key. It reactivates
only when the same hot-key is pressed again.
6. A powerful, full-featured, multi-window, multi-buffer text editor. You
simply select the file you want to edit and press the "E" key. No other
text editor will load, save, or search as fast. Editing space is only
restricted by available ram. If expanded memory is present, you can keep
files in the editor's buffer and not impact conventional memory if you run
another program. The editor also supports line drawing and can be con-
figured to display Carriage Returns (indicates if there are any trailing
spaces), Tabs (indicates if there are any leading spaces after a tab
column), and the EOF (end of file).
7. Configurable mouse support. You can change directories, change drives,
run programs, and tag (with draging). The button definitions and motion
sensitivity are easily adjusted.
8. TSR programs loaded after dCOM was run can be cleared.
9. Search an entire drive for a particular file(s).
10. Fully configurable color. On a EGA card, dCOM can be configured to use its
extended color palette of 64 colors. Files read from the current directory
are displayed in three different colors, one for executables, one for sub-
directories, and another for the rest.
11. dCOM uses its own high performance video drivers which, are extremely fast,
automatically perform snow-elimination when on CGA cards, and are multi-
tasking aware (TopView, DESQview).
12. Standard DOS utility functions are all present and usually extended:
a) Sorting directories with executable files first, filename-extension,
extension-filename.
b) Tagging files (indicating total tagged and bytes involved) for sub-
sequent copying, moving, deleting, printing, or attribute changing.
Copying checks for insufficient disk space before starting, it can
span multiple disks, and the source file is totally read into memory
before writing the destination file (if memory allows).
c) Standard file functions include: Copy, Delete, Move, Print, Rename,
Execute, Edit, Hide, and Read-Only. Almost all of these functions can
also be performed on sub-directory's.
d) Point-n-Shoot user interface. You run files and change directories
simply by selecting its name and pressing Return. You copy a file(s)
by either selecting the file or tagging the desired files and then
press "C"...
13. Some of the extraneous capabilities are a complete alarm/event system, and
the ability to transform the keypad plus key to a carriage return.
The features listed here are more-or-less the highlights. What we can't tell
you is how easy it is for a novice to use, or how it leaves very little wanting
for your die-hard hacker. It covers all the bases and is a lot more than just
what the title, "DOS Utility", implies.

│ Important information for our Bulletin Board Users. │
└─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
We currently have four telephone lines to provide support for our dCOM users as
well as people "just looking" at dCOM. The difference is that as a registered
user you will have the advantages of having 40 minutes of daily time as well as
being able to down load the current BETA version of dCOM as it comes of the
press.
You will, however, have to log on first before we will be able to upgrade your
status. So even though you have had you new dCOM for 4 weeks and then call our
board you will not have registered user status until you let us know that you
need you status upgraded. The same proceedure applies when you are upgrading to
a new release of dCOM.

│ Information on Line and Phone Numbers │
└─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
The dCOM Support Board currently has four operational lines. In general,
unless you have a modem faster than 2400, you need not concern yourself
with using any other line besides the first one because they all "hunt" if
busy. The two faster modems are intentionally placed behind the two 2400
baud modems so that callers also having a faster modem may direct dial them
with better success of connecting at high speed.
Line Phone Modem Baud
──── ─────── ─────── ──────
1 264-1219 Hayes 9600 V.42
2 264-1382 Hayes 9600 V.42
3 264-1383 US Robotics 9600/14400 HST
4 264-4986 US Robotics 9600/14400 HST
I will stress again, DO NOT call any other line besides line 1 (264-1219)
unless you have a modem faster than 9600 baud. If I catch anybody direct
dialing on any other line besides line 1, it will be considered grounds for
loosing your access to this board.

│ General Information on Using the dCOM Support Board │
└─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
■ Nonregistered users are automatically deleted if inactive for 120 days.
■ Messages and mail are automatically deleted after they exceed 120 days.
■ All menus are "hot". This means you don't have to wait for the menu to
finish displaying if you know the command you want.
■ The "G" Goodbye and Logoff command is active at all menus, even though
its not shown.
■ The Escape key can be used to abort back to the previous menu.
■ The logon password IS CASE SENSITIVE. Don't forget whether you entered
it in lower case or upper case. (Blame the idiot that wrote TBBS!)
■ Your comments about the system and dCOM are encouraged!!!
